Random Questions and Thoughts

Twenty five years ago a decent calculator cost more than than a used year old advanced PC does today.
Gas was more expensive than today thanks to an embargo and Iran still held our nation hostage as it tries to do again.
Israel still faces the same aggressors, islamic terrorists in civilian disguise.
The USSR is collapsed and trying to reinstate its footprint.
Our economy, and south east Asia's are growing at a rapid clip and drawing the rest of the world with us.
Why are we not unleashing our full might to finally crush islamism as we did in WWI in the defeat of the Ottoman Empire and WWII in crushing Nazi Germany and Japan?
Why is our press still fooled by propogandists from the enemy?
Why are too many Americans still fooled by the MSM and the conspiracy theorists of the left?
In Gulf War I Saddam launched SCUDS at Israel, Hezbollah and Hamas launch rockets at Israel today, so removing Saddam from power was wrong?
The islamists kill homosexuals, women, children and atheists and they don't allow abortion, yet they have the support of San Francisco. ( Not many real women or children left in SF) our most progressive liberal city????
Why do liberals claim to be progressive if everything they support is regressive ie. higher taxes and more government control over your life and finances?
Cuba and Hugo Chavez can drill for oil with Chinese backing fifty miles off Florida's coast but we can't. What gives?
If you oppose drilling in ANWR, or off any of our coastlines or the building of new refineries or nuclear power you have zero and I mean zero right to complain about fuel prices.
I will be installing solar panels ASAP on my house, with our sun, I am a fool not to.
I find it hilarious that our Democrat to challenge Arnold is a developer that likes to illegally pave over wetlands, Phil Angelides, the Sierra Club hates him, oops?!?
I could go on and on and on, vote Dem, prepare for the pain.
Join the GOP and help the Goat keep it to its conservative core, lower taxes and smaller government, as George Washington often intoned, as government grows liberty shrinks.
I believe Ronald Reagan used to intone that idea as well, an idea worth fighting for and the Barnyard is dedicated to it.

Well, where should I start other than it was a great day for a round of golf the most pure and noble of games, steroids and doping don't help you put that little white ball in the hole. It is a game of thought and physical action with an unpredictable finish unless your name is Ben Hogan or Tiger Woods and even then it is about how you overcome adversity, the bad shot, and recover gracefully or dig it out till the bitter end not how you play the perfect shots. Golf is nuance, touch and feel to be drawn from a limitless supply of options and techniques as is war.How does war apply to golf you might ask? I will compare hezbollah and Israel, Israel aims for the fairways and occassionly slices one off into the pool party at the house by the fairway, hezbollah chooses the correct club and aims at the house, specifically the pool area with innocents in abundance. Israel gets sued, hezbollah, they forget pool parties and hide, somethings wrong here. Its would be like letting one golfer hit to a clear fairway and the next, the Israeli., has hundreds of people flood the fairway and if he hits one he is penalized. Whether it is golf balls or missiles it is asking for a fight, in fact begging for it..Hezbollah does build schools and med clinics among other things on top of bunkers and arms caches , what is Israel to do, let those weapons be used against them ?Both of my Ca. senators are Jewish and liberal, Boxer and Fienstein, and both support Israel, hmmmm? Dianne Fienstien delivered a very pro-Israel speech this weekend to her moonbat constituents, it will be interesting how this plays out. DiFi may be a liberal but she is a smart one, the GOP can't touch her here, waste of money. She is right on Israel, I will give her that, compared to the Kosclub.

Iraqi PM Maliki Visits the USA

I have read his comments and those of our president and their words offer something unforeseen for the middle-east, a path to peace with a clear victor and violence is not the answer in the long run. By all indications the people of the ME are ready for peace, and tired of the indiscriminate bombing of the Judaic as the Arab league remains largely silent as the current Hezbollah conflict enlarges vs Israel. I pray Israel will be left to kick some ass that it well deserves to kick

The Other Universe

Yes our State Dept. has gotten off Israel's back and Sec. Rice let Hesbollah know in no uncertain terms, disarm or be routed out. Routers are one of my favorite tools, they remove unwanted material quickly in the shape you desire, in a skilled hand, a wonderful tool, in the hands of a novice, a disaster. Dr. Rice is a craftsman of the highest level and she is using her tools, the best you can get, correctly for a change. I love to watch skilled craftsmen work especially masters and Dr .Rice is one of the very best, you don't bamboozle dedicated smart women like her with retoric. Lord knows I tried.
After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, Persia, the Persians were largely removed to Iran, their homeland. The Arabs distrust and dislike the Shia Persians after years under Ottoman rule and likewise British rule of which we are an 'extension'. Meanwhile the parameters for Israel were set by the Council of Nations before Hitler's rise or the Holocaust and not as a result of.. A people that knows only war can only defend itself, Israel has been under attack for thousands of years, yet they persist and thrive in the most hostile environment imaginable, God's people.
Tel Aviv, Beiruit and many other cities around the Middle -East show what can happen if the radicals are reigned in and killed or captured. Miss Universe

I won't complain about a bunch of gorgeous young ladies parading across my screen. I definately prefer the ethnically derived costumes in the introduction that have a realistic flavor and simplicity. I don't like the walking parade floats. They are all beautiful, stunning! I am a leg and face man, prefering proportion to excess and style to pure glamour. Puerto Rico, Denmarck, Switzerland, Columbia, Ethiopia, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Sweden, Trinidad-Tobago, Thailand, Bolivia, Hungary, USA, Paraguay, India, Argentina, Ukraine, and Mexico, top twenty and all are absolutely gorgeous, India was a double wow for me. , lots of of South American representation..
Swimsuit time, Oh Boy! Of course, being male, besides Miss USA my favorite will arise from this. I give up they are all hot beyond belief. How do you choose? Go USA, a little, blonde cutie, still a double wow for India and Ukraine despite a personal bias towards east asian women. Canada, Trindad-Tobago, Bolivia, Japan, Puerto Rico, USA, Switzerland, Mexico, Columbia, Paraguay make the cut. Like I said, how do you choose?

The Joy Of It

It seeeeems my loonbat detractors are absolutely bent on proving me right, not that I have problem with that. It looks like we are left with a very unruly left that has become more centralized and determined to take the course of Nero's Rome, facing an electorate that is moving to the right over gay marriage, illegal immigration and other socialist measures.
A loonbat recently stated that equating the Dems with socialists was incorrect in the comment section. I will return fire with this. How come the DNC is supporting an independant proclaimed socialist, Bernie Sanders, that will not accept the DNC nomination, and deserting a staunch liberal like Joe Lieberman? What else are we to percieve from the Cindy Sheehan rallies with the socialist stamp all over them? I totally encourage the loonbats to continue their campaign of lunacy, the GOP can only benefit... The ball is in our court, how we return it is up to us!

SoCal Wildfires

The high desert is once again in an uncontrollable blaze thanks to decades of fire suppression and strangling growth of underbrush. I know the area fairly well being a frequent visitor to Joshua Tree N.P. to climb and used to camp outside the park in the area now ablaze. It was a grossly overgrown area of desert scrub, manzanita is impassable and burns very hot, with many dead pines also overly dense from a bark beetle infection. This my friends is a recipe for horrific wildfire when combined with the ever preseant hot, dry wind. Many of my best friends are in forestry and agree with me.
When I lived in SoCal I did alot of volunteer work for a Boy Scout camp that was lost in the fires a couple years ago as favor to a man dedicated to forestry helping to clear defenible space, it was a blast. I helped remove some really big dead trees aound the camp and raised the trees and cleaned out all the dead wood around the camp. To no avail, it burned a couple years later, a real tragedy, it was a really cool Scout camp bordering an Indian reservation with great rock for climbing.
The primary pines in the region are the Coulter , Sugar, Pinon and Ponderosa, all heavy sap trees. Coulter pinecones, the worlds largest and heaviest could be called natures gas can when set afire. We always gathered a stack as a side for the camp fire as firelight, thrown on one at a time they illuminate quite an area for a surprising amount of time. All off these pines have a high turpentine content especially dead and burn with extreme heat, can you say an inferno?
The envirobats blocked removal of all those dead trees and other sane forestry practices for decades and this is the result. I used to be one of them, contibuting to The Sierra Club, Greenpeace, etc...., their policies ended up in the wrong place and unable reconcile my own research and observations. Fire is needed by the high desert environs to actually break open the the cones of theses pines and prepere the ground for their seeds, the mighty Sequoyia is a perfect example of this need of regular fire.
Meanwhile the desert gets fried beyond recognition thanks to decades of faulty forestry habits. That was is an unbelievably gorgeous area, it will recover, slowly, but on the bright side thousands of inaccessable boulders and climbing areas will now be wide open to first accent. Next spring will yield a gold mine of new spots as the granite in the region is unreal for climbing, as well as being adjacent to Joshua Tree. I miss camping down there, its a wonderful experience.

The Levant Erupts

It seems Michael Totten's post from the border region of Israel and Lebanon , (scroll around the whole month is awesome so I linked archives and not a direct), was sadly prophetic as he noted the extreme tension that was palpable to the point of snapping a couple months ago and it has snapped. I have to admit this event makes me more nervous than 9/11 did as Israel our "little brother" has been the main target of the radical islamists for a long time and it has nothing to do with Palestine. It is because they are Jewish, no other reason, as the terrorist thugs interpret the Koran correctly in its commands to kill the Jews. Mohammed, may he rot in Hell, spread his pseudo-religion through violence and subjugation not to God but to islam and him, in otherwords you would have peace islam only by submitting to Mohammed's rule of law Sha'ria otherwise you were considered second class, dhimmi and taxed for it or simply killed. Sounds like a glorious "religion" considering they haven't left the 11th century yet except for how to make bombs and pull a trigger.
Why are they unable to farm their land to produce food?
Why did the ingrates destroy greenhouses that employed thousands and fed many more in Gaza?
Why do they seek to better themselves by killing innocents in gruesome ways?
Why don't they seek to improve their own lot in life by productive methods Israel and the West have given and shown them?
I think their brains are baked by the heat and the hashish and just like their idol Mohammed are simply desert pirates to lazy to actually work for a living and want to beg borrow and steal instead. That was Mohammed's way, to wage war and loot those that did not bow down to him, "their is no peace without islam" takes on a whole new meanining in that context. We call it extortion here.

Hezbollah and Hamas fired the first shots and as a government Hamas can now be held to account in Palestine as can Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria. Will Iran play a card or just talk big? It seems Israel belives the time for talk is over and it is time for the shooting to begin.

Evangelicals For Mitt!!


In browsing the web today, I came across a blog called evangelicalsformitt.

As most know, Mitt Romney is quite possibly the most perfect Republican candidate for the presidency that this country has seen in 25 years. He has exactly ONE stumbling block. He is a Mormon.

This has translated into anticipated primary problems among the evangelical voting bloc in the South which is absolutely needed to advance onto the nomination. As such, this blog gave me incredible reinforced hope for Mitt's future. Although I always believed he could eventually win them over, it has been a shaky spot of concern. After reading this blog, which I have linked at the top of the page, I feel much better.

Please go to the site and read up on his positions on varius issues as well as why this group of evangelicals has determined him to be the best candidate for the GOP in 08.

I think you'll agree with them.

The Big Mess


As I'm sure most of you heard by now, Boston's Big Dig project was involved in a fatal catastrophe last night after a 12 ton piece of ceiling fell onto a vehicle killing newlywed Milena Delvalle, 38.

The Big Dig is a failed project ripe with corruption. Since its inception almost two decades ago, the country's largest infrastructure remodeling project has been plagued by outrageously overblown budgets and what is clearly shoddy work. In fact, local news reports circulating today stated that this same tunnel had a problem with the adhesive that held the pieces together as far back as 2001.

As you can guess from the picture to your right, Governor Mitt Romney who cut his vacation short to return to the scene, was not pleased.

"Gov. Mitt Romney said Tuesday he is taking legal action to oust the head of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority after a woman was crushed to death by falling cement in a Boston Big Dig tunnel. "People should not have to drive through the Turnpike tunnels with their fingers crossed," Romney said. "Neither I nor anyone else could be or should be satisfied until we have new leadership at the Turnpike authority."

In what has been a long standing battle with the head of the MAss Transit Authority and Big Dig manager Matt Amorello, Governor Romney has now promised to fight with everything that he has until Mr Amorello is relieved of his duties. You see, among other oddities of the Bay State, there is a provision which makes it impossible for the Governor to fire Amorello without legal recourse and in addition, Amorello does not have to provide any details of the project to the Governor!

I say "Stop the Insanity."

14 billion dollars, leaks, falling tons of cement, corruption, bribery, sub-par work, A doesn't know what B is doing and C doesn't have the right to know even though C is in charge of A and B and NOW, we have this poor deceased woman.

I have no doubt that Governor Romney will indeed remove Amorello from his position and I believe the Big Dig will now be under a scrutiny never before seen in this state. However, it won't bring back Milena. I wonder if either of our esteemed Senators will be attending her funeral?

More On The Frisch Fry

I posted about that loonbat professor in Az the other day and American Spectator has picked up the story broken by Protein Wisdom and Blackfive. Now that she no longer has a semi-real job she is free to join up with Code-Pink and Cindy Sheehan and play victim of the vast right wing conspiracies. If you have followed the links you would have found a very strange, deplorable feminist. Woman is too good a word to use, true women aren't feminists they recognize men and women have a role in society and that it varies. I hope women don't let the left damage them as severely as it has damaged the black community.
Heck, I am southern and have a strong mom and both grandmothers and most of my aunts are strong women and I was taught to respect them and my sister and cousins. They worked right along side us men and boys making the farm work, we all had different jobs that meshed like a machine to keep us through the winter months. We all picked except a couple ladies that prepared the kitchen for the canning or freezing process to come. This took place in the morning and the afternoon was spent on the porch shocking corn and peas, snapping beans and eating watermelon as it was sent to the kitchen for processing. I am only a generation away from a small working farm and my generation is the last to be able to say that, I remember finally getting indoor plumbing in the farmhouse. My grandparents were not rich but they owned their land and it provided for them and their family, in many respects they were wealthy beyond belief as rocks in their community and pedestals to build generations of families on. There is something about farmlife that does that and in my opinion is reason families are fleeing to more rural settings away from the degenerative nature of city life. I couldn't handle it, I walk out of my house to the smell of flowers and horses and the sounds of birds and a rooster or two in the morning, not horns and the commotion of the city.
The world of concrete canyons, artificial light, sound and stink does not even entertain my thoughts except with its frivolity. How a person could live in a big city and maintain any sense on sanity is beyond my redneck thinking, maybe thats why my blogger compatriot goes by Mad Hatter, Boston blues?
Speaking of Boston, it seems a portion of the fattest "pork" project of all time, "The Big Dig" has collapsed killing a person. It's Ted Kennedy's and John Kerry's fault for supporting such an insane project I am being fasecious here but thats the sort of extrapolation the loonbats go to fault President Bush.

PS: There is a whole world of difference in chasing snakes, turtles and fishin' holes to chasing false villians or worse on a video screen, a living world as compared to a dead one.

Frishing Trolls

Comment moderation has been activated so those that post to just get a rise out of me or a reader nolonger will be able to see their text. Going around an IP ban only shows how incredibly rude a person can be and hardly makes them any more welcome than before. I really don't like having to moderate my comment section but circumstances override my desires at times as other means have proven to be ineffectual. Parklife, a moonbat, and I have had some fun conversations, it's(won't admit sex) a proud moonbat and PL is semi respectful, I'm not, not of people that hide who and what they are and snipe from the dark especially when they copy large portions of my blog for inane ridicule, so childish and feminist. PL is not the reason for moderation being installed, though It knows..
So anyway, friendly commentors can post in peace without worry about attack from frisching trolls and I will post them as soon as possible, in the evenings, donot expect a daytime or latenight post to show till around 6:00 pm pac., weekends will be sporadic. I hope some of my old friends will return to posting now that this safeguard is in place.
Meanwhile, I got to hit the links sunday for a fun round with a retired couple obviously republicans as their first words learning I was from Al. were about "Katrina" and how well Al. and Mi. are getting work done and New Orleans is still crying. Their son tried to go help and was turned away, he's a builder but not local. Enough of that, I feel my game coming back into shape quickly and I am considering becoming a 'country club' conservative', as much as I like to play I would save huge money by joining. This is a beautiful course full of mature trees invading fairways and approaches, subtle small greens with a meandering creek adding nuance to many holes. I love the game with its extreme difficulty and many life lessons about patience and working through failure. In many ways it incapsulates the Marine slogan of "Adapt, Improvise, Overcome " in your adventure against the course and the course always wins as you can only better yourself against it. It is a solo treck, sometimes with a partner, with only your ability achieving a result, great or dreadful.. Much has been written about man's endeavour with the golf ball and only an addicted golfer could try to explain and only be understood by those also afflicted among us.May, fairways, greens and many birds and eagles grace your journey. I have always said, much can be learned of your fellow man in eighteen holes, more on golf course behaviour and how to interpret it later.

Dang It

It is a sign you are growing older and wiser when summer starts to become your least favorite month as temperatures soar and yard work increases. I love keeping a sharp lawn and gardens but when it gets hot it loses its charm and becomes another days labor.

It seems the left is having trouble getting any real traction as our economy continues to power forward as Larry Kudlow points out more of what he calls the "greatest story not told"


Did you know that just over the past 11 quarters, dating back to the June 2003 Bush tax cuts, America has increased the size of its entire economy by 20 percent? In less than three years, the U.S. economic pie has expanded by $2.2 trillion, an output add-on that is roughly the same size as the total Chinese economy, and much larger than the total economic size of nations like India, Mexico, Ireland and Belgium.

This is an extraordinary fact, although you may be reading it here first. Most in the mainstream media would rather tout the faults of American capitalism than sing its praises. And of course, the media will almost always discuss supply-side tax cuts in negative terms, such as big budget deficits and static revenue losses. But here's another suppressed fact: Since the 2003 tax cuts, tax-revenue collections from the expanding economy have been surging at double-digit rates, while the deficit is constantly being revised downward.

Will the MSM report this above the fold in blaring font, not likely as it goes askew to their agenda.

One of my favorite milblogs, Blackfive , brings an illuminating bit of info on the loonbats in this case of the vampire variety, a college psych prof none the less , threatening a two year old. You won't believe some of the garbage posted by this slime, well, I take that back, the loonbats will.

We all know that lefty trolls can be a real inconvenience at times, but a very special troll named Deborah Frisch has taken trolling down a very dark road. Jeff Goldstein is the very insightful conservative blogger who writes at Protein Wisdom and Dr. Frisch (did I mention she's a psych[o] professor at the University of Arizona?) has repeatedly and quite disturbing levied DEATH THREATS against Jeff's 2 year old child.

I post this in the hopes that any readers in the law enforcement community or at the University of Arizona will take the opportunity to click on over and see if they can be of assistance. Much like Robert Fisk of "fisking" fame, Frisch ought to become her own unique internet verb for a deranged troll/cyber stalker. Please don't hesitate to leave your submissions in the comments.

I support the the move to call blog troll's posts "Frisching" , the ones meant just to be annoying and often foul and insulting. I know I have my frishes, I prefer them fried or grilled though sauteed is fine as well..

I comment fairly often on the lack of good help and apprentices coming into the trades, I post not as a union schill but as an American Craftsman. knowng that those who have my skills are diminishing not growing. Union glasswork is hard work but easy mentally, I have no beef with them, raising major curtain walls is serious work, been there done that,including layout work. I prefer doing residential work for high dollar clients, making there custum bath, kitchen, bar or whatever become a reality. People will always need glass and we are at the forefront in residential design. I can be reached through email if you have questions.

Family Reunions

I think they are a great thing that have lost much in the last few decades. My paternal family has held them annually for as long as I can remember and it is always a fun time. We are not a recent immigrant family, meaning last 200 years, my family arrived in 1623 and has much native blood though the name is intact as is the family house in Boston, a State landmark and historic site. My sirname is a bit unusual so it is fairly easy to track unlike a Williams or Smith so far we have gone back to the days of William Wallace and have a family crest from Scotland, a reason for my penname, personal security. Sadly the native geneology is impossible to complete at this time.
My college student apprentice recently told me that I have a better grasp of history than his professor and that I should teach it after a discussion on Palistinian and Israeli politics. This is not to brag at all because it disturbs me greatly that a college student in poli sci would express this to me, a novice though a political and historicall junky.Has our collegiate system fallen that far behind? Yeah, I lean right politically but that has little to do with loving history, all sides of it. I had the benefit of truelly brilliant history professors and from my experience in open forums a vast majority were not so fortunate.
How do we correct this? We spend an average of a quarter million dollars a public school classroom a year, thats a lot of money. I support vouchers that would allow parents to draw their alottment of that $10,000 avg per pupil and put it into private education if they desire. Unions should be outlawed in public service on the taxpayer dime especially teachers unions because thet could care less about education of the kids, they are more concerned about their socialist welfare/pensions. That point is directed at the unions not individual teachers as my father was a teacher and continues to be mine even after his passing.

The Mexican Vote

I have semi payed attention as it does portend on our relationship with our southern neighbor. It appears after the second official count that Calderon, the conservative candidate has won by a slim margin of a few hundred thousand votes, about .5% of the vote, and the lefty candidate has vowed street protests if the vote does not go his way, so typical, its become hysterical. I can't blame the people so much as the politicians in Mexico as a history of corruption runs very deep. It is the primary reason they seek to come here, Mexico is a very rich country when it comes to natural resources and its people should be able to prosper easily. It has two extrordinarily beautiful long coastlines, oil, arable land, a vibrant workforce and all it needs is leadership. Mexico does not need socialism it needs real progress which will greatly reduce the immgrant flow here. Another positive side affect could be the voluntary return of many to help build Mexico as support for Calderon ran high among the illegal community as polls reported about 60%.
The real answer to fixing the illegal immigration problem comes with helping Mexico build a vibrant economy, it has the fuel. Walls and guest worker programs on this side don't help fix that side and the root cause of wanting to come here and that is decent paying jobs. I am a supporter of free trade and open markets and I tell all young folks I know, become a tradesman, learn a trade. It will take as good of care of you as you take of it. Working in California for about a decade now as a contractor, I have seen Mexican and Eastern European immigrants largely filling the slots, no american youth and that is sad.
Even when I started my trade at minimum wage as a complete rookie I did what I was expected to do and more, I wanted raises and I got them. I now get to work for some of the wealthiest people in California. This is not to brag, it is to make the point that a little actual toil and perseverence pays off , and the Mexican people know that far better than much of our native population, regardless of race.
We have become far to spoiled and complacent.

Felt Like a Monday

A midweek day off is always wierd, it messes with your internal sense of time, at least mine anyway. I have not used an alarm clock in years, even when needing to arise ahead of schedule. The loonbats on the left never cease to amaze and entertain me, I just can't take them seriously anymore their arguments are so detached from reality. I have been around the block and been dragged through a few briar patches in the process and never claimed victimhood nor whined about it, that's life. I love these liberals that grew up with a silverspoon and claim to know how to better run my life, screw them, if I wanted euro-style society I'd move there, I don't. If they want to try and play word games, I'm game.

A good read on Mexico's election, it seems the left has the same tactics as here.

MEXICO CITY--Felipe Calderón of the National Action Party hasn't any doubt that he won Sunday's presidential election, and he says that his adversary, Andres Manuel López Obrador of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), knows it, too. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal at his campaign headquarters yesterday, Mr. Calderón appeared rested and confident. "I'm not going to get into personalities," he told me, "but all the parties have copies of the tally sheets showing the voting, and the PRD knows that it lost."
Mr. Calderón's numbers jibe with those of Mexico's Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) and it seems almost certain that he won. But as we go to press, an official announcement has not yet been made. A preliminary ruling is scheduled for today, with the official decision to come on Friday. And even then the country may be in for weeks of the Mexican equivalent of challenges to hanging chads.
The big victory in this race goes to the IFE in carrying out a spectacularly clean, transparent and well-organized election. If institutions matter to development, as Nobel laureate Douglass North contends, then Mexico is well on the way to progress. Mr. Calderón echoed the sentiments of millions of Mexicans when he told me yesterday that watching the electoral process made him "proud to be a Mexican." Mexico's next test will be how it stands up to Mr. López Obrador's threat to call street protests if the IFE decision goes against him.

It looks like on the liberal side as being all Hillary if the loonbats don't go Feingold or desert to third parties like the Peace and Freedom Party of CodePink and Cindy Sheehan.

IN CONGRESS,

July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.
We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. Give Me Liberty

To imagine the echo of the words booming inside that hall in Philidelphia on this day as debate raged over the Declaration of Independence gives shivers to my spine and tears to my eye as 50 odd men swore their lives, wealth and honor to the birth of this nation. My favorite speech leading to that day is by Patrick Henry and seldom printed in its entirety, as we prepare to celebrate our founding read this speech and think also of the present and future of America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

No man thinks more highly than I do of the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the house. But different men often see the same subject in different lights; and, therefore, I hope it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen if, entertaining as I do opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve. This is no time for ceremony. The question before the house is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at the truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.
Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the numbers of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst, and to provide for it.
I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past. And judging by the past, I wish to know what there has been in the conduct of the British ministry for the last ten years to justify those hopes with which gentlemen have been pleased to solace themselves and the House. Is it that insidious smile with which our petition has been lately received?
Trust it not, sir; it will prove a snare to your feet. Suffer not yourselves to be betrayed with a kiss. Ask yourselves how this gracious reception of our petition comports with those warlike preparations which cover our waters and darken our land. Are fleets and armies necessary to a work of love and reconciliation? Have we shown ourselves so unwilling to be reconciled that force must be called in to win back our love? Let us not deceive ourselves, sir. These are the implements of war and subjugation; the last arguments to which kings resort. I ask gentlemen, sir, what means this martial array, if its purpose be not to force us to submission? Can gentlement assign any other possible motive for it? Has Great Britain any enemy, in this quarter of the world, to call for all this accumulation of navies and armies? No, sir, she has none. They are meant for us: they can be meant for no other. They are sent over to bind and rivet upon us those chains which the British ministry have been so long forging. And what have we to oppose to them? Shall we try argument? Sir, we have been trying that for the last ten years. Have we anything new to offer upon the subject? Nothing. We have held the subject up in every light of which it is capable; but it has been all in vain. Shall we resort to entreaty and humble supplication? What terms shall we find which have not been already exhausted? Let us not, I beseech you, sir, deceive ourselves. Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. We have petitioned; we have remonstrated; we have supplicated; we have prostrated ourselves before the throne, and have implored its interposition to arrest the tyrannical hands of the ministry and Parliament. Our petitions have been slighted; our remonstrances have produced additional violence and insult; our supplications have been disregarded; and we have been spurned, with contempt, from the foot of the throne! In vain, after these things, may we indulge the fond hope of peace and reconciliation.
There is no longer any room for hope. If we wish to be free--if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending--if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained--we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight! An appeal to arms and to the God of hosts is all that is left us! They tell us, sir, that we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be the next week, or the next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Shall we gather strength but irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable--and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come.
It is in vain, sir, to extentuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace--but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!
