Odd Trivia Fact Of The Day

President John Tyler was born in 1790 and two of his grandsons are alive today, some pretty amazing genes in that family. I would guess the parents were born in the mid 1800s and they were born in the early 1900s. It is amazing anyway you look at it.

This unusual situation is the result of late-in-life second marriages. President Tyler’s first wife, Letitia, died during his Presidency; his second wife, Julia Gardiner Tyler, bore seven children, including Lyon Gardiner Tyler in 1853, when President Tyler was 63. Lyon Tyler was President of William and Mary College from 1888 until 1919. After his first wife died, Lyon Tyler married Sue Ruffin, who bore him three children: Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr. (born in 1924 and still living); Harrison Ruffin Tyler (born in 1928, still living and the current owner of Sherwood Forest Plantation); and Henry Tyler, who died in infancy (1931).
