Weekend Rambler

Oh this is an absolute must read I found linked at The American Thinker on the loonbats latest craze. Some lefty thinktank cooked up 14 traits of fascism and links it to the Bush Administration. This post at One Cosmos, is interesting, hilarious and scary all at once as he dedunks them so well.
--------

This is pretty scary stuff. For weeks now, liberals have been trumpeting this research into the Fourteen Characteristics of Fascism, warning anyone who will listen that America is on the brink of a fascist takeover--if it hasn't happened already (just google "fourteen characteristics of fascism" and you'll see what I mean). At first, I just assumed that it was the typical hysteria and/or paranoia of the reality based community, but as I read each characteristic carefully, a cold chill wind blew across my spine.

Take a deep breath. Here we go, with my comments:

-------
The editor of Popular Mechanics magazine fires back at the 9/11 conspiracy nuts in a great editorial in the New York Post, another must read.
------
For a 104-year-old magazine about science, technology, home improvement and car maintenance, this was pretty extreme stuff. What had we done to provoke such outrage?

Research.

Conspiracy theories alleging that 9/11 was a U.S. government operation are rapidly infiltrating the mainstream. These notions are advanced by hundreds of books, over a million Web pages and even in some college classrooms. The movie "Loose Change," a slick roundup of popular conspiracy claims, has become an Internet sensation

Did President Bush set a political trap for the surrendercrats and those that think protecting the rights ot terrorist murderers than protecting the worlds free people? William Kristol at the Weekly Standard thinks so and it will make National security a major issue this November. (my earlier post)
-------
It [the 2006 election campaign] shouldn't be about national security."
--House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Sept. 14, 2006

Too bad. It will be. On September 6, 2006, President Bush set the trap. He spoke in the East Room of the White House on the war on terror. He announced that 14 terrorist leaders and operatives, who had been held and questioned by the Central Intelligence Agency outside the United States, were being transferred to Guantánamo. He outlined some of the information acquired from the interrogations of men like Khalid Sheik Mohammed, and explained that this information had contributed to disrupting terrorist plots here and abroad. In light of the Supreme Court's Hamdan decision, the president asked Congress to pass legislation that would put this interrogation program, and trials before military tribunals for captured terrorists, on a surer legal footing

Tim Russert's debate between Sen. George Allen, one of my favorites, and DNC challenger James Webb was very good. Tim asked some tough questions, from the center left of course. I loved Webb's book "Born Fighting" tracing Scots-Irish blood. It is an excellent read that I had trouble putting down and highly recommended . I have trouble seeing how he will fit into the new Democratic Party. He is not soft on defense but does not quite understand what we are up against. He is close but Senator Allen gets it.

My blogger friend and talk radio host Lores Rizkalla has gotten another great guest for her show , airing at 10:00 pac, here. Nonie Darwish and Salmon Rushdie author of "The Satanic Verses" and living with a fatwah on his head. What a great show, Nonie is a special person, and sharp as tack. I got to thank her and ask her if Mohammed's legacy was built on theft an violence and if history differed from Paleologos' assesment as quoted by the Pope, and if they were untrue. She confirmed Paleologos, and the Pope. Is my characterization of Mohammed as a desert pirate accurate? She confirmed that as well. I will link the audio as soon as Lores has it up .
