Iran's New President

Well now we know for sure where Iran stands, no more glazing over and obfuscating by a shams Rafsanjani and Katami. Power is now consolidated with the military and The Supreme Guide Grand Ayatollah Khamieni. Amir Taheri an Iranian scholar in exile and prolific writer has commented extensively on this. I read him at Benador Associates and would recommend
reading several of his recent columns. This is a great site , one of my favorites for Middle-Eastern affairs.

'NO MORE MULLAHS'by Amir TaheriWall Street Journal June 30, 2005

In one of his rare outings during the Iranian presidential election campaign last week, Ali-Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the man then designated as the likely winner by almost everyone, ran into a spot of bother. An old woman broke through his security ring, shouting, "May I have a word with you?" Once allowed to approach Mr. Rafsanjani, the woman removed his turban with a blow and shouted, "No more mullahs!"

Update From LGF: At Jackson’s Junction, Pamela from Atlas Shrugged shares an email from Iran, accompanied by photos of empty polling places: Business as Usual in Iran.
Tehran, Jun. 17 – Polling stations in Iran’s capital were by and large empty today despite an appeal by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for widespread participation in the presidential elections. Most of the Tehran’s voting stations had a record-low turnout and many were empty, see the photos from polling stations.
I think it is important for everybody to know that, Mr.. Ahmadinejat was not elected by the Iranian people, all those millions and millions voting for him is a big lie! He was installed by the so called Supreme Leader. The hardliners in Iran bused thousands to government employees to few polling stations visited by CNN and other international media. Great showmanship
