Good Football and Iraqi Elections

My Crimson Tide squeaked out a defensive brawl in the last seconds of a brilliant final drive with a field goal from 30 yrds out . The type of defensive dual so typical of this rivalry, they are always ready for us and often have their strongest game of the season, life in the SEC is not easy for a top team and next weeks game against the Vols won't be easy. I saw the final quarter of the Trojans and Irish and what a game that must have been, another great finish with great drives by both teams in the final minutes with a controversial last second win.

The Election
It went off for the most part quite peaceful and with great turnout in most areas outside the Al Anbar. From scanning reports from Iraq it was one of the more peaceful days as cars were banned from the streets and kids played soccer in the streets as their parents waited in line to vote. This was a historic day for Iraq's democracy and freedom and a tremendous blow to the murderers and their supporters here on the loony left. Hey Cindy Sheehan, eat purple finger! I found this round up of the murderers attacks at the Fourth Rail, quite wimpy for all their bluster.

"- Gunmen fired on two polling stations in Baghdad. No injuries.

- Office of the Iraqi Islamic Party is torched in Fallujah. No injuries

.- Office of the Iraqi Islamic Party is struck by a roadside bomb in Baghdad. No injuries.

- Office of the Iraqi Islamic Party is destroyed in an attack in Baiji. No injuries.

- Terrorists blow up the home of the local Iraqi Islamic Party chief in Ramadi. No injuries.

- Five security guards wounded in a car bombing near a mosque in Kirkuk

- Four civilians wounded in a roadside bombing targeting a U.S. patrol in Baghdad.

- Fifteen insurgents arrested as they prepared to attack polling centers in Mosul. No injuries.

- Power cut in 70% of Baghdad after power lines are sabotaged north of the city.

- Two police wounded in roadside bombing while patrolling near a polling station in Baghdad.

- Civilian killed by sniper fire near polling station in Baghdad.

- Three insurgents attacked an empty polling station South of Basra, and are captured. No Injuries.

- One policeman is wounded after a roadside bomb exploded near a polling station in western Baghdad.

- Fighting reported between a small band of insurgents and U.S. troops on patrol in Ramadi. No casualties reported. "

Update: If you miss my bloggin' buddy Karen over in her Korner you have missed a wealth of great info, she went on a tear today with a mention of yours truely as well.

And Good Bye, James Doohan, as "Scotty" beams up and is to be launched into space for burial. I am a long time fan of Star Trek, just a fan, not fanatic, and this is a grand passing for a man that brought a memorable character to life and instilled a sense for adventure in the unknown in millions of fans. I love all of the spinoffs and movies and the great hope they portray and the necessity for violent battle at times and have always felt there writers and producers were some of the very best Hollywood has to offer and I abhor Hollywood.

And for other reasons I repost the last part of last weekends post:

Talons not Tears

Eagles and Patriots don't cry,

We fight,

sometimes quietly in the shadows but we are here.

We don't parade in crazy costumes but we are here.

Sometimes we wonder why?

We fight daily in society's trenches but we are here,

Our patriots shed their blood so that, we are here,

As my Lord had to die,

So that I am here!

Two Wolves

---------- One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

The wisdom of that statement is fathomless

It appears that many of the mission objectives in Iraq are being accomplished. I wish, even as Lores suggested, that our administration would be more upfront about the successes and even the failures of the Iraqi Reconstruction.

On a lighter note, I was devasted by yesterday's games. I wanted Boston College to lose to Wake Forest (a very close game) because then NC State (the wolfpack) would actually have another chance at winning the ACC.

I hate USC! So, why did Notre Dame have to cough it up at the least minute.... Let's just hope that my hopes are salvaged as the Chiefs play the Redskins today.

The Iraqi election(s) make us look like a bunch of fools here in the U.S.

Under the worst of circumstances, they get a higher percentage of the population to show up on election day than we do.......

And they don't bitch and whine about having to wait in line.

And they go to the polls knowing it may be the last action of thier life...........Yet gladly do so.

A great day for Iraq. A great day for America..........But an embarrassment for Americans!!.
