California Supreme Court Overturns The Will Of The People

They overturned a voter approved intiative that defined marriage as being between one man and one woman to allow gay marriage. We voted a few years back to uphold the traditional definition of marriage with 61% of the vote and more than a 1 mil vote margin but the Courts decided we were wrong and that it's against our State constitution but this was foreseen by traditional marriage proponents and we will get the chance to amend the constitution this November. This will help Republicans across the state as it will help draw conservatives to the polls and possibly help John McCain return the Golden State to the red column since Obama wants to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and appoint very liberal justices to the courts.

and that was passed in this state, a very liberal state.

got a feeling you may be right in regards to the voters here. imagine that. now, if McCain can exploit this to his advantage, it could be another runaway victory for him. lolol

Wow. Talk about your vote not counting!

Frankly, I think marriage should be between two people and their church. Legal recognition thereof should be up to the people of the individual state, and the fed ought to stay out of it altogether.

That way, Adam and Steve can simply move to a state that recognizes their union, and the rest of us aren't forced to (we can move to states that agree with us).

Thwarting the legitimate will of the voters is completely inappropriate, though I admit no expertise with the California Constitution.
