Tuesday Tidbits For Independance Day: Updated With Video

A great way to start is with Rick Moran's imaginative "Liveblogging" the Continetal Congress's deliberations on the 3rd of July, 1776 over The Declaration of Independance, he has fun with it and creates an informative read at the same time. I look forward to the next update.

The Patriot Post always has a pointed essay for today and Mark delivers.

There remains one crucial question: What are we willing to risk to salvage the heritage our Founders handed down to us? Our warriors in the field have demonstrated that they stand in the direct line from our Patriot Founders—prepared to sacrifice all in service. Many activist citizens gave time, effort and resources to turn aside the Senate’s recent attempts to foist a dangerous change in immigration laws on the nation. But the United States as a nation is not as secure as at its tenuous beginnings.

The signers of the Declaration concluded their treatise, “We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States... And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” Do we citizens, inheritors of the Republic bequeathed us, still stand ready to hazard even half so much?
I have commented before that I look at the blogosphere as the modern day equivalent of the great pamphleteers of the early years of the press, as it became easier for the average Joe or Publius to be heard.

I hope you have a good 4th of July today, old friend. I read some of the "blogging" of the Continental Congress, via Michelle Malkin, and enjoyed it.

Sorry for the light blogging lately but after the Thompson do and all the time spent fighting the amnesty bill right after, I needed a short break, :-). That fellow Matt had a pic of me and I'm still debating whether I'll add it to the Thompson post... might scare people.

Happy 4th of July.

It's a shame more people don't appreciate what this day stands for. But then, that same mindset has been present throughout our history. Only one third of the nation in 1776 really cared enough to be passionate about Independence from Great Britain.

Today, only one third really care whether we win this war against terrorists.

Speaking of Samuel Adams, this quote describes how I feel about the one third who actively seek to undermine our efforts to protect freedom and liberty:

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.
