Hollywierd Writers Strike

Yay, what are they striking against, America is not watching them enough? They haven't written anything worth watching in years, they swim in such a tiny aquarium that they have lost touch with reality. I haven't been able to stomach a sitcom in years, and crime/medical dramas haven't changed in decades. Their movies are tanking at the box office and their hate America eliteness is making no friends in the heartland. I say let them strike, we need less of their writing not more of it, none wouldn't bother me because I don't watch anyway.

LOL Goat! You sound just like me. I think I said most of this this morning in a rant to hubby.
I don't watch sitcoms any more either. Most of what I watch is on the Halmark Channel, the History Channel, and mainly when I watch television it's to watch a movie that I've rented. Most of those are old and made before Hollywood went moonbatty. They can stay on strike forever as far as I'm concerned. It will make for a saner world. :)

Gayle, I will watch a lefty bent documentary on PBS before I tune into a Hollywood production. I would rather see High Plains Drifter or True Grit for the hundredth time than anything from Clooney and co.

Amen!

These days the only business my TV gets is from my DVD player. The few TV series' I am interested in watching, like 24 or JAG, get watched commercial free on DVD.

These screen writers are just another whiny element of Hollywood liberalism, going after their own kind for more royalty money.

When I lived in Nawlins, NATPE (National Association of Television Production Executives) had their annual convention there, and it seemed like Hollywood emptied itself into the Crescent City as everyone from film and TV alike showed up to support them, from "major" actors right down to cameramen and grips.

All the attendees I chatted with in bars and other places around the Quarter were so far removed from the realm of reality that I had to wonder if there is something in the drinking water out there...

having lived in l.a. for several years, it was always amazing to me what people would do to be able to say they were "in the business". not everyone in the l.a. area is a moonbat, but more are than not.

when attending church out there, i was always floored by the people the other members of the church were supporting; people who were conservative christians supporting the likes of kerry because he was "less scary than bush." no rational explanation behind the statement, just repeating what they'd heard some hollywank say.

i like a few shows, but we always watch from the dvr and by-pass the commercials. but most of what gets watched on our set is basketball (go lakers!), baseball (yea!!! sox) and the history channel. other than that, it's just not worth my investment of time.

You know what is funny is the very first job I ever went on in Ca was for a celebrity, Pauly Shore, nice guy, really. I never liked his schtick but it was still neat. Yea it is a nutty city Heidi but I loved my time living there though I was exploring the mountains and not the 'Strip'.

To be honest, I can see the writers' point. As an aspiring writer myself, I have thought long and hard about royalties and such. The argument the writers have is that they do not get paid for DVD or internet sales and they want a cut.
Hollywierd politics aside, with the big push for the internet as the next big film meduim, it is understandable that a writer would want to get paid. If I were a writer, I would want it also. Color me greedy, but the film, tv and music industries are still figuring out how the itnernet fits into their business plans, so I think it is right and proper for the people writing the stuff gets paid. After all, one day, I hope to be writing some of that stuff. Better quality stuff, without the liberal moonbat bias, but still.....

Is anyone missing their filth? I'm not.

Sorry Ron, I have zero sympathy for Hollywood unions and about the same for unions in general. If you want royalty rights make sure it is in your initial hiring contract, if it ain't don't whine about it. How about some free market reform in Hollywierd?

In defense of unions....
I used to be a union steward at my job. I know, hard to imagine a Republican as a union steward. But we have the union and I figured if I wanted to make sure there were no abuses of the system, from either side, I should be involved. Before AT&T Wireless got bought out by Cingular, I was pretty anti-union. Then Cingular, with its old school Ma Bell management attitude opened my eyes to what kind of abuses a company can put employees through. While I have not become a rabid union man, I have come to realize that collective bargaining and a contract can have its place. It is not for every job. It is not for every employer. Not all unions are as good as the Communication Workers of America (at least the local 6016 that I was a member of was pretty straight). But to all the people that are anti-union in a union workplace, I have to stress, the union, like our nation, is made up of the people there. If you don't like it....change it.

Ron, unions have their place in American history not in its future. I have had to fight them most of my career as they hurt people like me, independant businessmen. Ido work they can't/won't do and I am still barred from their worksites. I hate unions with every free market bone in my body. They had their place in history in the early days of the industrial revolution but not anymore. Writers complaining is the ultimate non-grievance, we don't have to buy their garbage. I am anti-union 100%. I hate unions as much as they hate the GOP, socialist fops that they are.
