John McCain at CPAC

That little clip is from Allahpundit at Hot Air and showed some of the humility and grace that John delivered his speech with today. John walked on that stage knowing he would be booed and gave the most important, gracious and moving speech of his career and delivered it like a man ready to lead us through the perilous times ahead. Like I said in the post below this one, it is time to bury the hatchet in the Democrats and not in each other.

It was about 4AM local in my end of the woods when news broke of Mitts announcement. My thoughts went out to the many bloggers whom I have visited/read that supported him, yourself included. Been a heated rollercoaster ride for many months, looking on, I pray for some tempering and consensus, anything but, is self-defeating and would only lubricate the path to 600 Pennsylvania Avenue for, you know who…Now I'll view the McCain clip...

You are a very gracious man, Goat, and a good sport as well. I'm very proud to have you as a friend! I know how long you have been championing Romney and what a blow it must have been yesterday to hear that he was dropping out. When I heard it the first person I thought of was you.

Romney made the best speech yesterday of his entire campaign, and McCain's speech was awesome as well. One thing that really gives me hope is that McCain is not known for breaking his promises. I hope the GOP will get behind him because he's got this wrapped up whether people like it or not, and many don't. It will be interesting to see who he wants for VP.

i missed everything yesterday as i was in the hospital since early wednesday morning - seems my appendix didn't want to make it to the grave with me...

anyhow, i'm not burying the hatchet, goat. that's not the way to improve the gop. tammy bruce still had it right - better to increase conservatives in congress than to back mccain for potus.

Thanks, Jungle Mom and welcome back Otto.
Thanks for the kind words Gayle, yea it stung a bit when I saw the early news at NRO but enjoyed his great speech. Where was that Mitt on the trail?
Heidi, if John has the sense to put Mitt on the ticket I will work for him, if not, it depends on a lot. My efforts will be concentrated on defending some Ca House seats, Eric Egland in my neighbor district to replace the disgraced John Doolittle and Duncan Hunter Jr to replace his dad, both are Iraq/Afganistan veterans and strong conservatives.

I don't know if I can bury the hatchet, Goat. He's liable to pick it up and sink it into our backs. I'm inclined toward Ann Coulter's view.

I have heard talk of Romney maybe running for Governor in Michigan and I think that would be a far better thing for him than being cursed out by McCain every other day for the slightest hint of dissent.

McCain gave that fine speech Thursday and has done absolutely nothing since. Now, he will reap what the media planted. They built up the weakest Republicans to strengthen liberals bids, while the "moderate" Republicans call us the extreme fringe and when "their boy" loses in November it will be all our fault.

I'm inclined to let them blame it all on us. We can call it Political Tough Love.

I thought maybe I could do it for the SCOTUS but Coulter brought out a good point about that, too. McCain will pander to the left on those as he will everything else, except the war on terror.

The only reason he's running on an R ticket is the war, knowing that the Democratic Party will never support a pro-war candidate. Everything else is liberal or liberal-lite.

His ACU rating for 2006 is 65. There is a Dem or two who have one higher. In fact, his ACU rating has gone progressively lower since 1998. It's the years previous to that one that has kept him above an 80 for a lifetime rating.

Even if by some miracle he won, it would still be a win-win for the liberals and we'd still take the blame for everything that goes wrong.

Still there are 8 months left before making a decision one way or the other. Perhaps things will become clearer over time.

As you know I am well aware of McCain's record Hillbilly. I am far less worried about his Judicial picks than some of his other stances like global warming, amnesty and campaign finance law. John did work very hard for Roberts and Alito and I had less problem with the Gang of 14 than many of my conservative peers as it preserved our right to filibuster liberal Judicial picks. Like I told Heidi above it depends on alot for JM to get my support but my hatchet will not be aimed at him, it will be aimed at the Democrats.

All that, too. This so-called Republican worries me. I was reading over at TownHall that already they're asking him to pick a VP for ticket balancing and here's what he had to say about who he would choose for a VP:

""The fundamental principle behind any selection of a running mate would be whether that person is fully prepared to take over and shares your values, your principles, your philosophy and your priorities," McCain said."

I'll vote for him but I won't be active on his account nor will I donate money to his campaign. The man, simply, scares me. He's simply the best of three bad choices.

We'd best start working on the House, the Senate, and 2012 now to forestall being put in this position again.
