Energy Freedom Day, October 1, 2008

Two of the GOP's best Sen. Jim Demint and Rep. Jeb Hensarling have launched a new website, Energy Freedom Day, while the GOP Representatives continue their revolt on the House floor for a do it all plan. With a strong majority of Americans clamoring for more domestic production even Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi is starting to cave and indicated to Larry King last night that she will allow a vote. I imagine her caucus is getting an earful from their constituents.

Here is a little nugget to chew on about California's coast where production could be brought online in as little as a year. There are more than 2,000 mapped natural seepage points that leak hundreds of barrels of oil into our coastal waters every day, in other words we know where to go get it without looking very hard. I would think the environuts would want us to pump out that oil so it doesn't kill sea birds and otters but that would make too much sense. The modern oil production is not the same as that of the past when spills were frequent from offshore rigs and now represent only 1% of coastal oil pollution compared to 64% from natural seepage the rest comes from boats and tanker spills. Oil from over seas has to be transported by super tanker and the more we can reduce that demand the less risk of a spill and thus better for the environment in a meaningful way unlike the myth of carbon pollution in the air.
Obama recently called conservatives ignorant for mocking his tire inflation gambit but he is a big supporter of ethanol blends that reduces mileage by about the same amount as having properly inflated tires and tuned engines increases it. So who is the ignorant one here? It appears to be Obama and the rest of the Democrats.

don'y forget about how good an oil rig is for the marine life. Need proof? check out La's Gulf Coast. Those rigs become something for the coral and inverts to stick to and grow...which feed little fish, who feed big fish.

maybe the californians are just afraid their expensive vistas will be blocked by fishing boats...of course that would mean jobs in the fishing industry would boom...not to mention the jobs created by the drilling...and refining.....and.....

oh well.

A friend of mine shot a River Otter (Mistaking it for a gator) once and skinned it and staked out the hide on the Barn Door. He cooked it over an open fire--The meat tasted real fishy... Mmmm-mmm. But not to worry, these guys ate everything they shot in those days, and the list meant nothing to them out in the okefinokie...The only thing they wouldn't shoot was rogue steers.
