Would Obama Push For Slavery Reparations?

America has owned up to its past and fought a very bloody war to end slavery within its borders so reparations talk raises many questions. Obama had this to say to a conference for minority journalists and along with a recent vote in Congress on apologizing for slavery raises my hackles just a bit.

I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it's Native
Americans or African-American issues or reparations, the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds."

Is he saying the American taxpayer, all of whom had nothing to do with those practices, should hand over their money to nonvictims of our past?
Who would get those payments and what percentage of your blood/DNA would be required to qualify?
Would those African-Americans that migrated here long after slavery was abolished also get payments?
How would they prove they are the descendants of slaves?
Why should I a descendant of folks that never owned slaves be forced to pay for the transgressions of about 5% of the population of our long gone past?
Where is the outrage against the Arab muslim nations that ran the slave trade in Africa, abducted far more than us, treated them far worse and still practice it today?
Why do Democrats continue this blatant attemp to keep the black population enslaved to the government through idiotic policies such as this and welfare?
When will blacks wake up and realize no one is holding them back but Democrats and their complicity with teachers unions?
I could go on and on but the point is that America has owned up to its past inequities and does not try to cover it up as Obama implies. I owe the black community nothing other than the opportunity to apply for a job they are qualified for and would have zero problem hiring them if they are. Barack Obama has applied for the job of POTUS and I find his qualifications glaringly deficient and it has zero to do with the color of his skin.
Further reading on Obama's obsession with race can be found at of all places the NYT.

Goat, Excellent Post! I agree with you wholeheartedly....I and mine are not responsible for what happened in the past but to recognize what happened and see that it doesn't happen again....But why should I pay for what happened years ago to anyone...?????....stay well....

Mr. Obama knows better. He is merely promising to give money to Blacks and Indians to get their votes.

One could easily argue that reparations have been already paid insofar as Blacks are concerned: Secession War, constitutional changes, affirmative action, Obama and others, etc.

My gg grandfather died (disease) while in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Another gg grandfather's brother was killed in battle while fighting with the Union Army. This gg grandfather had two other brothers that also served.

There were many other uncles and cousins that fought on the Union side.

Do their sacrifices earn me "reparations credits"?

But, then again, I had a ggg grandfather that lived in Mississippi and was worth over $100,000 in 1860. In 1870, he was only worth $10,000. Did he pay enough?

Do the trillions of dollars spent on the Great Society and the War on Poverty count towards reparations, or are we supposed to start from scratch?

On the other hand, all of this was over 140 years ago and I wasn't there, neither were any of the potential recipients of reparations.
