Talk About Nasty Air
The smoke here in the Sacramento valley is so thick it resembles the fog that envelopes the area in the winter. One of the major fires is about 45 minutes north of me and threatening the quaint little town of Paradise though it is hardly that at this time. This is largely a result of four decades of failed forestry policies brought on by all the environmentalists out here that have largely stopped all logging and forest thinning. I spend a lot of time in our bountiful forests and I can attest to the fact that they are grossly over grown thus causing these fires to burn much more intensely than they normally would. I know I would prefer to visit a forest that has been properly logged than one that does not exist at all because of fire and won't recover for decades because of the heat that these fires are burning with. They are basically sterilizing the ground which prevents even grass from taking root.
I just heard on the news that Paradise is being evacuated. Dang, it is such a pretty, ideallic little town and a very good friend of mine and his family live there. I call on my readers to send their prayers for those 10,000 residents, they need them.

I heard about Paradise being evacuated too. What a shame, Goat. My prayers are added to yours.
Honestly, "environuts" is a perfect name for them. They have no clue to the harm that they do! :(
In addition, I pray you stay safe and don't have to evacuate!

Don't be too pessimistic...I've saved a copy of Sunset magazine that documents the recovery of Yellowstone from the tremendous damaging fire there about 10-15 years ago. It was only a couple to three years after the fire, and the recovery was unbelievable. Everywhere is different, but nature is amazingly powerful.
I could probably scan the issue for you, if you're interested...(relevant parts, not the whole thing)
Suek, yes I would like to see that article. I am aware of the evolution of a forest after a fire as I can see it in areas of the Sierra that have burned in the past.
PS my email address is in my profile.
OK...manyana...(I know that's wrong, but I don't have one of the little squiggely things on my keyboard. My second language is german, not spanish, Mr. Obama. Oh yes...and also a smattering of highschool and college latin, french and greek. I favor bilingual schooling as well, although the choice should be English if you speak something else at home and whatever is the prevailing "other" language in your area. Parts of LA would probably do better with Vietnamese, Korean, Thai or some other of the Eastern languages. I also think we should make English the _official_ national language. Making English the official language is _not_ divisive, Mr. Obama, having multiple languages _is_!)
Sorry...slipped off-topic there...!
