Romney Wins Nevada
Early returns have him winning by a huge margin, +25-30% will this effect voters in SC? We'll see.
Update: Wow Mitt is up by 44% over McCain and Paul and Obama by 70% over Clinton
Update: Mitt 55%, McCain 13%, Paul 12%, Fred and Huck 7%
Clinton and Obama are now tied.
Update: McCain and Paul are less than 100 votes apart with Paul having the edge, if these numbers hold then Mitt is the only one that has not finished behind Paul . That should embarass the rest of the field pretty bad but the land of Sin City and the Bunny Ranch is fertile territory for Paul.
Update: Nevada final, Mitt 51%, Ron 14%, John 13%, Mike and Fred 8%, Rudy 4% and Duncan Hunter gracefully drops out of the race. On the Dem side Hillary 51%, Barack 45%, John 4% amid a storm of controversy. county by county breakdown here.
On to South Carolina where the earliest returns are just starting to trickle in.
Update: 25% reporting- John 35%, Mike 28%, Fred and Mitt 15%
Update: 50% reporting- John 33%, Mike 29%, Fred 16%, Mitt 15%, Ron 4%, Rudy 2%
Update: 80% in- above numbers are holding but less than 1% separates Mitt and Fred with some big districts yet to report, its been called for Johnny Mac. It is a sad day for Fredheads for sure, you are welcome to come join us in the Romney camp to help stop McCain in Florida, we would be very happy to have you join us.
Update: County breakdown is here, Mitt and Fred are both in the 15% range but Fred has a small lead for third without rounding.

Mitt's win in Nevada was pretty much a given, will do well in the West because of his ties to Mormonism - he will not do well in the South. I see the Republican race coming down to John McCain and Mitt Romney and I think John will edge Mitt overall because of his support among moderates. I believe that John is the only one who can beat Clinton and Obama. Believe me, John has angered me in past years because of his centrist views, but I really think he will be the right man to take the reigns because of his military/veteran background and his unwavering views - you know where you stand with John McCain. I hope you heard his remarks after his win in South Carolina
I will support John whole heartedly if he gets the nomination but I am a Romneyite so my primary vote is unmoved. My main problem with him is embracing Gore's climate change bull, he has a very unrealistic approach to it, no domestic oil exploration. I can live with his other travesties, but this I find very tough to swallow. At least Mitt hasn't been beaten by Ron Paul.
Well, I wrote up a nice response and the connection timed out - I lost everything. I guess it's gone forever... 8-(
Ok, lets try this again:
I don't know why you are trying to tie John McCain to Algore - I don't see Al out there campaigning for John and John certainly hasn't been calling him for advice (or maybe you have some inside dirt on him?). As for the greenhouse gas issue, is isn't settled yet and when it is everyone will eventually see it as bogus. I can't say that I disagree with John's stand on environmental issues. It's way too soon to make an all out assault on our oil resources - we need to investigate alternatives first to get us off our dependence on oil. As for John being "beaten" by Ron Paul: it's a non-issue at this time - nice try... ;-)
I am all for green tech but denying access to our domestic oil reserves in favor of euro-socialist cap and trade policies is ludicrous, it will kill our economy. Look Maddog I am one of the most pro-environment folks you will ever meet but I am not stupid nor myopicically inclined to believe Al Gore's hype as true and John has. May I suggest you peruse this site for a while and get back to me, http://icecap.us/index.php
We can not get off foriegn oil if we don't drill and pump our own and we have more than the middle east. Do you want lower gas prices or inflation caused by the pipe dreams of ethanol/bio-fuels?
John's win in SC was a given Mitt won more delegates and by 30% not 3%.
I can link John to more hard leftists than Gore , how about Kennedy and Feingold?
If we have to settle for an extremist Right winger like Mitt Ronmey my head will explode!!!! Go Mitt!!!

Well said, Sugar Pie. Hail, them Mexicans will be pumpin' oil off our shores soon enough--we might as well.
Even though my man came in third in SC Goat, I had to come over and congratulate you, so "CONGRATULATIONS!"
Since McCain won in SC and Mitt took Nevada, it does look like it may boil down to Mitt and Romney. I too expect Fred will drop out. I don't think he has the funds to carry on. My husband is a Veteran and prefers McCain over Romney, but like you, I don't like McCain's having bought the global warming bs. At the moment I'm having a hard time backing anyone. It won't matter in the end anyway... I can't afford to throw any more money at campaigns. I probably wasted what I did contribute on Fred. :(
I will vote Republican, regardless of who wins, unless it's Ron Paul. I cannot bring myself to vote him into office. Let's hope we aren't put into that bag of worms!
You know I like Romney, Goat.
He's been running a phenomenal campaign. But I'll be surprised if breaks out to win the important primary states like California or New York.
McCain's got momentum. He's going to be hard to stop at this point.
I just read Ann Coulter's column: "The Elephant in the Room" where she made this statement: "The candidate Republicans should be clamoring for is the one liberals are feverishly denouncing. That is Mitt Romney by a landslide."
Hmmmm. Yes, the Democrats hate Mitt. That's definitely in his favor.
The real problem will come when idiots keep giving Ron Paul enough money to remain on the ballot and we end up with a 3 candidate race which will certainly bode poorly for the republican candidate.
Remember this little fact Goat: The South Carolina primary has accurately predicted the Republican presidential nominee since 1980, and since 1988 it has often played a decisive role.
Yes but this is no ordinary year, its on to Florida and Feb. 5th. where McCain loses his indie vote in GOP only primaries. Mitt has a big delegate count lead so far and more actual votes for him than McCain. The MSM is playing up SC and Nevada down where Mitt won the first clear majority and not just a plurality.
Don, you may be right but we cancel each other out in Ca LOL and we both live in GOP districts.
Gayle, you Texans may get to decide this thing yet.
Aunty Belle, welcome to the Barnyard!
I've said what I have to say so no sense in repeating myself - it's your blog so I won't waste my time spoiling your party. You can be sure that we will know who was right after the smoke clears in November. All you Mitt fans have fun in your delusion...
Why be a jerk about it? I like John and will support him if he gets the nomination and work for his win but untill then I am a Romney supporter. What's the matter can't handle his lib loving flip flops being pointed out. I acknowledge and counter Mitt's shifts can you? Illegal immigration, campaign finance reform, soft on terrorists, I have lots, want to play hardball whiner. I will support John and fight for him would you do the same for Mitt, for our PARTY?
So I'm a "jerk" and a "whiner" because I won't play your games? Guess I never should have checked in here. Like I said, it's your game and I guess I'm not qualified to play - bye...
You are welcome to come here and discuss issues and even talk up your candidate but don't dismiss me as delusioned because I support Mitt. Will you work for Mitt as John did for George after a fierce primary if Mitt wins , I will for John?
Loser
I guess you don't have the intestinal fortitude your candidate has, cry baby, BYE.
I am more than willing to debate any issue on an adult level but I am also willing to get in the mud and wrestle with the pig because I like BBQed ribs and I am going to grill that pig.
